Some common questions about powerchairs, manual wheelchairs and scooters

Are powerchairs easy to learn to drive?

Most people are amazed how simple it is and having no previous experience is a possible advantage.

Will they travel as far as the brochure says?

Yes but only under "ideal conditions". As a rule if you halve the mileage quoted, you will be safe.

Do I need a licence or insurance?

No, not by law, but we feel a basic third party insurance is essential. It should cost just over £1 per week.

Do these machines need lots of servicing?

No, for most people once a year is sufficient.

Could I be issued with a chair for free?

Yes. Providing you meet certain criteria. Health Authorities are short of money so it can be difficult, but talk to us and we will advise on how to go about it.

Are they heavy?

The weight of the chairs can vary greatly so look at the specification. The lighter the chair the more expensive they tend to be.

What about the chairs I see in the magazines that come through my door?

They are often of low quality and spare parts maybe impossible to obtain. We try to keep such models so you can compare.
