Furniture and stairlifts

Warning

You will see many advertisements in the press but bear in mind that most of these companies are national and employ "local" salesmen. To finance the adverts and salesmen, prices can sometimes be increased. Caution should be observed. A commission-based salesman who has travelled many miles can often be very keen to obtain a result. A company who will not send out leaflets first, complete with a price list, should be regarded with suspicion.

Rise & Recline Armchairs
There are many of these types available with prices ranging from £600 to £3,000. We believe that most people need only spend between £800 to £1000 to purchase a suitable chair. This price range will include the type of backrest, which can be altered for comfort. This is important because most people only spend a few minutes in a chair before purchasing. After some hours they may wish to make adjustments to make it more comfortable.

Electrically tilted beds
electrically tilted bed Nearly all beds will raise feet and head separately. Much of the variation in price is due to the amount of decorative upholstery on the frame. Beds can be fitted with a massage unit which many people can find beneficial. This usually adds about £100. Most beds appear just like a normal one but headboards can be extra. Often it can be less expensive to transfer your old headboard or buy locally.

Stairlifts
These are either straight run or curved. The latter can be twice as expensive. Some are mains operated and others battery. The advantage of the battery type is that they require no alteration to the house wiring and they work in a power cut. This can be important in rural areas. Sometimes by using a drop down platform, a straight stairlift can be used on a curved staircase. This is not ideal but can save thousands of pounds.
